That is rather disappointing when the folks who created it aren't the most enthusiastic about it. DC3 has so much promise too.

I tried to grab the old DC2 and found the last installer posted doesn't even work

I'm not sure what you mean about the DC2 installer not working. I haven't downloaded it from here but it looks the same as the version I used previously. It is not a complete program, but it did work. Over 1000 downloads of DC2 have been made from the Dungeonforge website (it is hosted there with permission together with other DC related stuff) with no complaints about it not working. I haven't tried it on Vista, so I don't know if that is the issue.

It's sad that this website still exists, but the actually developers haven't said a word in over a year.

Oh well...I'm gonna keep my files online as well, in the hope that one day DC3 will be worked on again.

I really hate to say it here... but since the site is pretty much a ghost town I'm going to anyway...

I have pretty much abandoned DC altogether, although I do still use DC1 a bit whenever I need a quick rough map. I tend to use PhotoShop when creating my maps and utilize a lot of the free art from the Dunjinni website/forums as well as from RPGMapShare.

It's truly sad though... I really did like DC and DC3 in particular. Though I wonder if I could use some of the user art in DC3...

Damn, I just opened a topic stating the request for Open Source too. Seen the unbelievable amount of replies of the Dev team here, I don't much chance of a reply there neither ..
This sucks.

I am so desperate for a Dundjini alternative that doesn't rely on an ancient java version and actually .. works.

There are alternatives that do work. Look at the list at BRPG. Given that this is a DC3 site, I don't feel it right to discuss alternatives in detail, but that is a list to start with and there is at least one that I think is much better than current version of DC3 Wink (there are others too).

What I was wondering if this project is open source.

And some of the alternatives are open source.
